Organizational Structure and Change in State Health Departments

Population Health and Access to Care

To increase understanding of the range of variation and recent change in the organizational structure of state health departments in the United States; and to identify the potential implications of changes in organizational structure of state health departments on some key aspects of public health practice, including the allocation of financial and human resources for key public health services.

Goals

The objectives of the study are to:

  • Increase understanding of the organizational structure of state health department and Medicaid programs
  • Identify the reasons behind and potential implications of changes in organizational
  • structure of state health departments on key aspects of public health practice, including allocation of financial and human resources
