Ryan Burtka

Legislative Director , Senator Jim Marleau (Republican, District 12 – North Oakland)

Ryan is the legislative director for State Senator Jim Marleau, chair of the Senate Health Policy Committee. He oversees and implements the Senator’s legislative initiatives, with a specific focus on health policy and insurance, and manages office communications. In 2010, he consulted on Senator Marleau’s election campaign and previously interned at the Michigan House of Representatives, at a Lansing-based multi-client lobbying firm, and at a non-profit education advocacy association.

He is the youngest of three children, originally from Allen Park, MI. He joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves after graduating from high school and trained intermittently during the summers while attending Albion College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts. In 2008, he was deployed to Djibouti, Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Now, he lives in the Lansing area and spends his free time traveling, enjoying the outdoors, and cooking.
